Anyone who has ever spent a fair amount of time and effort producing their own bait, will know the satisfaction of being able to specify every single ingredient and the levels they are used at within their boilie! It’s most definitely a big edge!
When I decided my time as a bait manufacturer and supplier was up, I had loads of my customers asking me specifically what I was gonna do about bait! And for a while…. I had absolutely no idea, it was a real headache. Anyway after I’d talked to some companies that I trusted and had some very kind offers from them, it was Baitworks that I decided to pin my badge too!
Mind Tricks

Even with the fantastic reputation that Baitworks has, my mind still played tricks on me, especially as I am currently fishing a water that has a reputation being ever so moody! And that’s a nice way of saying it can be a bit of a pig at times!
So, Spring came (according to the calendar anyway) and things ever so slowly started to wake up. I caught a few fish even though the lake hadn’t woke up yet, mostly on the bright smelly ones as you do at that time of year, but the little doubting devil that quietly whispered in my ear every so often was still there…..Even though I was diligently applying the bait!
Then one shiveringly cold late afternoon in a swim called the point, on the back of blustery North Easterly wind in bright April sunshine the buzzer burst into life unexpectedly and after a brief fight a big golden common dropped into the bottom of the net….at last one of the better fish. At 40.04 it was one of the big uns I hadn’t caught the previous year and suddenly the world felt better, even if the weather really wasn’t playing ball.

Later that night about 3am the same rod was away and line slowly ticked off the very tight clutch. A much better fight ensued and soon another big sparkling common was languishing in the folds of my net. On the scales this one went 41.00 and again not one I’d had before! I was thrilled to say the least and hadn’t noticed the glistening frozen ground of a hard frost as I lifted the beautiful creature up for the cameras.
Before 9am in the morning I’d had 3 more takes and landed 3 other commons, a 27, a 25 and a little stockie, I was absolutely made up at catching the brace of 40+ commons as whilst I’ve been lucky enough to brace 40+ mirrors before, I’ve never done it with commons, so a lovely touch.
Those few hours fishing absolutely cemented my confidence in Baitworks products although I knew I really should have have known better. As you just don’t hear anything bad about Mark’s products!
So here we are! The difference a few fish can make is unbelievable, I’m rocking now and looking forward to a cracking summer!
