Conningbrook – Richard Eyles
Conningbrook needs no introduction and with its rich natural environment and weedy waters it’s never going to be easy. My approach was to draw in all the naturals and in effect create snail colonies utilising the hugely effective Atlantic heat boilies crumbed up chopped. Regular baiting and the spots became alive, training fish to feed in neglected parts of the lake they soon started polishing of the spots.
A couple of captures really stood out in particular the one known as the big fully it hadn’t been out for over ten years until that season. That August morning I woke to a single bleep at just gone 5am the bobbin was motionless. I noticed a slight quiver in the line, something told me I needed to lift into it and so I quickly pulled on my waders and lifted in to it. There was very little resistance and I thought I’d hooked into one of the many tench but just as it neared the bank the rod hopped over and water erupted with the fish tail walking and swinging straight round on the tight line into the waiting net. I could believe what had happened and sat there staring at my prize in disbelief. I called some good mates and they all instantly came to the lake and we did the photos as the sun rose over the Kent downs. Truly a magical morning and one I won’t forget.
I caught all the fish on Atlantic Heat, with balanced bottom baits that I’d coated and built up layers of attraction using both the Cstim and Pure Mussel powders, a deadly combination. Contact us for more information
